Being Just
‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world, for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’
Matthew 25:34-36
Jesus makes it clear in Matthew 25:31-40 that faithfulness to God is measured in how we care for the marginalised. He mentions the hungry, the thirsty, the sick, the naked, the prisoner, and the stranger or refugee. This is a challenging scripture and one that calls for action. God’s love, care and compassion for everything He created is a central theme across the Old and New Testament. Justice is therefore of key importance to the NBA and we are pleased to introduce the development of a Justice Hub in the NBA which is a local expression of the National Justice Hub within Baptists Together. We hope it will prove to be a timely, faithful and helpful Gospel response to the realities
shaping our communities and our world at the moment.
Primary Aims of the Justice Hub
1. To love the Lord our God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength and our neighbour as ourselves. We seek God first in all things and look to join Him where He is already at work in the areas of Justice.
2. To be a working, collaborative resource which inspires, informs and prophetically challenges our Baptist faith communities across the NBA.
3. To develop a holistic response to local and international social inequality and environmental injustice. One which goes beyond simply becoming better informed, to making a practical difference in the communities we serve and beyond.
4. To encourage deeper community across our association, creating a space to share: our stories; any resources we have found helpful; charities we are working with, and learnings from our own practical outworkings of justice.
