Welcome to the Northern Baptist Association.

What is our aim?

To foster the life and mission of member churches, both individually and together.

Who are we?

The Northern Baptist Association is the Baptist family in the North of England. We are 72 Baptist and Independent Methodist churches serving over 3,000 members from Marske to Kirkby Stephen and from Northallerton to Berwick.

We have had Baptist churches in this area for over 350 years, but far from being static and complacent we continue to engage in mission and church planting. Thirteen of our churches have been started since 1950, and two of our churches have established four further congregations. In 2005 we welcomed 22 Independent Methodist Churches into our Association as a result of the Covenant Partnership between the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the Independent Methodist Connexion.

How do we operate?

Our fellowship together is so that we can encourage and resource one another for the work of mission, both for each church in its local context, and in mutual colaborate.

We are able to do this as people give freely of their time and also work alongside our Association staff. We have a Council that is responsible for overseeing our life, but their work is delegated to two main groups..

The Ministry group oversees the ministerial recognition processes, and seeks to develop the ministry of all, both lay and ordained..

The Resources and Administration group is there to resource our life and mission and guide us in matters of finance and good practice, this includes child protection policies, health and safety issues, disability matters. etc..

What can you do?

  • Pray for our family of Baptist and Independent Methodist churches in the North
  • Encourage your church to think of our wider mission in the North
  • Consider how your gifts might be used within our wider family
  • Support the events and initiatives organised by the Association
